Monarch Caterpillar Eating the Leaf of a Common Milkweed

Don't be surprised if you see a monarch caterpillar eating a milkweed leaf. It's the only acceptable item on the menu for these caterpillars, and they'll eat many leaves before transforming into beautiful Monarch butterflies. This caterpillar is munching on a milkweed at the edge of a dike in the Gile Flowage of Wisconsin.
